The Controller/CFO role is a senior leadership position and part of a senior leadership team led by the President, Chief Operating Officer, SR VP of Real Estate Development, SR VP of Asset Management, SR VP of Consulting, and SR VP of National Advancement.
The Controller/CFO will oversee and lead the finance team ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and provide overall direction for financial accounting and reporting systems, forecasting, accounting, budgeting, financial controls and records management functions of Artspace.
Develops, promotes and mentors the finance team by providing guidance, problem solving and technical advice that enhances productivity and effectiveness. They foster and develop a culture that is welcoming and inclusive. They promote professional development and encourage team members to ensure productivity, effectiveness and teamwork.
Supports the COO and members of the leadership team by providing ongoing analysis of financial activities to maintain financial health and optimize the use of corporate debt and equity.
Establish and maintain banking relationships to ensure that banking services fit the needs of the organization.
Serves as the primary liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors supporting the Treasurer in presenting and interpreting the financial information for the full board of directors.
Manages the annual financial audit with our outside audit firm and helps to resolve questions and issues as they arise.
Manages the 990 tax return process and provides the information needed by our tax and audit firm to complete the return.
Support the National Advancement team by supplying financial information to existing and potential donors. Maintain reporting relationships with external funders and provide quarterly financial information.
Preferred qualifications include: BA/BS MBA or CPA or similar advanced degree. Strong and proven experience in finance, real estate development, operations or asset management preferred. An interest or passion in providing affordable housing. Ten + years of increasing leadership responsibility at a senior level supervising seasoned accounting staff. Ability to create strong morale and spirit. A genuine interest in mentoring and developing finance staff.
