The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the establishing and maintaining effective accounting and financial systems, procedures and controls. The position also prepares, interprets, and presents financial reports to management and directors, in addition to directing the development of budgets and prescribes appropriate financial procedures to provide the basis for management decisions.
As the Chief Financial Officer, essential responsibilities include:
Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning, real estate, and conservation of assets.
Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the company.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and purchasing procedures.
Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Analyze profitability, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders. Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
Analyze and evaluate market, demographics and financial information for merger/acquisition candidates. Prepare required application to complete mergers or acquisitions.
Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
Monitor tax position of STAR Financial Group. Communicate with tax firm on major changes in tax laws, communicating with banks on changes that affect them.
Serve on Executive, Strategic Planning, IT Steering, and 401-k Investment and Nevada Sub S Committees, along with other committees and task forces as needed.
Represent the company externally to government agencies, funding partners, and media with regard to financial matters of the Company.
Participate in various professional and civic organizations.
Bachelors in Finance/Accounting or related field.
5 years of prior experience in a financial institution.
7 years of prior experience in a senior level finance or accounting role.
Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including GAAP.
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
Knowledge and experience overseeing automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
Strong knowledge of federal and state financial and tax regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Able to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and produce quality results within tight deadlines.
Experience developing strategic plans and execution of plans.
