Hello, my name is Marc Stockman, CEO of Metabolic Living, and I need your help. For the past 9 years we’ve been quietly tinkering with our business model. And now that we’ve architected a robust LTV, we’re hitting the gas. We’ve grown at 59% and 81% the last 2 years with 125% growth this year and on track to be $100MM. This rapid growth requires we transition from our fractional CFO to a full-time CFO who can build a world-class finance team. If you’re hungry for a challenge, this is it.

What Does Metabolic Living Do?
The most common question we get is – what the heck do you do? Because from the outside in, unless you’re a customer, it can be confusing, There’s a reason: We built everything organically in reverse, starting with our first nutrition program in 2012, then our first exercise program in 2014 and then launching our full ecosystem of products, including nutraceuticals, functional foods, subscriptions, memberships, 1-on-1 coaching and more. These are all marketed separately under different DTC websites and brands in a direct response (DR) manner.
And now we’re centralizing everything under our new brand, Metabolic Living, with our flagship website and app launching later this year, transitioning us from purely DR to a multi-channel traditional brand. The website at metabolicliving.com is a temporary one for COVID to raise $ for frontline health workers. We raised $45k. This website will be replaced with the fully branded e-commerce-driven one soon.
Normally, companies launch with a brand and then figure out how to make money. We did that in reverse – pinpointing pain points, curating world-class products, validating product-market match, generating cash flow to self-fund our growth, creating our north star (see more below), building out our operational team along the way and then retrofitting the brand on top. The ideal fit is someone who has been-there-and-done-that from start-ups through exits, but also someone with large enterprise experience as we’ll be there in 2-3 years. With things moving fast, wise judgement and clean implementation needs to come fast and be intuitive from previous learnings.
We aren’t just looking for a tactical person who is amazing at running an efficient, scalable and agile operational finance process; we’re looking for a strong strategic visionary as well. Someone who brings a strategic mindset to the leadership table, collaborating to establish our 5- to 10-year roadmap, pinpointing what strategic investments to make to accelerate and/or de-risk growth and bringing a unique, rigorous cost/benefit perspective to the table. That plus, the ability to peer into the future to deliver strategic insights that are unique and drive incremental value.
It’s not just strategic road-mapping in which the new CFO will deliver value, it’s also in the more tactical day-to-day, strategically building a small, effective and efficient team, smartly leveraging technology, systems and analytics to provide data-driven insights, while strategically designing lean workflows and agile process that can scale efficiently while easily adapting as our dynamic growth unfolds.
What is Our Exit Plan?
Our favorite question to answer: we have none. Seems counterintuitive, but that’s because we didn’t start this company to sell it. We started it to make a difference. It’s an entirely different mindset that builds an entirely different culture with entirely different people. This will be a huge turn ON for the right candidate and a huge turn OFF for the wrong candidate :-). That being said, we act like its an asset that is going to be sold, which manifests on an intense focus on profitability and cash flow (profitable every year except 1) and only investing into things that scale. We’re not against selling, it’s just not why we wake up in the morning and pour our blood, sweat and tears into things.

What are the Operational Objectives?
Cash Flow Forecast & Budget – Develop detailed budget and cashflow forecast so we can easily optimize our P&L at team/department level and manage outlays appropriately
Long Range Funding Plan – Architect a funding plan that supports our 5-year growth objectives and develop the necessary banking/financing relationships to deliver against that plan
Real-time Financials – Overhaul current accounting systems to deliver accurate, real-time daily financials to minimize time-delay reporting risk, while owning all accounting deliverables
Dashboarding System – Build departmental financial dashboards to empower team leaders to optimize their budgets quickly, easily and with confidence
Predictive Analytics – Assess best use of predictive analytics to help us peer around corners to better anticipate short- and long-term capital needs
ERP Upgrade – Collaborate with other team leads to deliver an upgrade from current QuickBooks-centric system to an efficient, scalable ERP that supports our long-range growth
What are the Required Skills, Experience and Traits?
7+ Years as CFO – Ideally in start-up/fast-growth, mid-level maturity and enterprise environments to provide the 360 perspective of all financial needs in our growth path
Multi-Channel Consumer – Deep and wide consumer-oriented experience ranging including DTC, distributor, retail, domestic, international, etc.
Hands-on Skillsand Desire – Not just comfortable but excited to take a hands-on role to finance, building the plan while flying it, assembling the team as necessary
Humble Team Leader – Knows how to recruit, train and build a world-class team in a player/coach mentality with an authentic humble mindset
Driven to Excellence – You’ve got an ownership mentality with an innate inner drive to excellence that other people who aren’t built that way find disturbingly intense :-)
