Washburn Center for Children (Washburn Center) is a leading children’s mental health center, caring for a wide variety of children’s needs associated with anxiety, depression, family stress and trauma. Washburn Center’s mission is to nurture every child and family’s potential through transformative mental health care.
The 136-year-old nonprofit offers critical mental health interventions to help children - and their families - realize hope. Washburn Center serves over 3,900 children from birth through age 18 and approximately 11,700 family members each year through school, home, telehealth and clinic-based services. More than 65% of children served are from families with low incomes.

Washburn Center has grown rapidly in recent years and has an ambitious five-year strategic plan to expand its range of services and serve 5,000 children annually. The Organization is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic leadership and sound fiscal management to achieve business objectives and ensure continued sustainability.
A newly created position, the CFO will be part of Washburn Center’s senior leadership team and will report to the Chief Executive Officer, Tom Steinmetz. The CFO‘s principle responsibilities include building a financial operation that has a disciplined framework for productivity and analysis; preparation of all financial reporting, forecasts and budgets; working with the executive team and Finance Committee of the Board; managing cash flow and debt requirements to support operations; and anticipating short-term and long-term strategic financial needs for significant capital and program development.
The CFO directly oversees the department of finance including general accounting, revenue cycle, financial planning and analysis, risk management, treasury and investment activities.

Required Skills, Experiences and Leadership Competencies
A minimum of ten years of broad financial experience in increasing roles of responsibility with at least five years in a financial management role.
Thorough knowledge of the disciplines of Accounting, FP&A and Treasury.
Proven success as a strategic business partner with strong financial modeling capability.
Understands business drivers and can analyze, interpret and present data to inform decision-making.
Track record of leading process improvement, identifying and prioritizing opportunities to advance the function through development of processes, systems and people.
Adept at leveraging technology to reduce risk, streamline operations and add value to the organization.
Strategic Business Acumen
Understands the vision for the organization and drives the team to create comprehensive and cross-functional strategies to achieve objectives.
Critically evaluates ideas and proposals, managing ambiguity and balancing opportunity with sustainability.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a Board of Directors/Trustees and be familiar with governance processes. Experience in a nonprofit or healthcare organization is preferred but not required. A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field is required. An MBA is preferred.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic, collaborative and hands-on CFO who possesses superior technical, operational and leadership skills. They will actively support Washburn Center’s mission and personally model behaviors consistent with the Organization’s core values.
