The Davis Academy, an independent Kindergarten Prep – Eighth Grade day school in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs seeks an experienced CFO/COO to join its administrative team. This position will report to the Head of School and work closely with the school’s Administration and Board of Trustees, the CFO/COO is responsible for providing leadership in day-to-day financial management and strategic financial planning in support of The Davis Academy’s mission. The CFO /COO serves as the senior non-academic administrator of the School, partnering with and supporting the Head of School on an array of matters ranging from day-to-day operational and financial issues to implementation of long-term strategic goals. The CFO/COO, in consultation with the Head of School and Board of Trustees, creates, administers, monitors and adapts the School’s strategic financial plan, operating and capital budgets, facilities and technology planning and other financial matters as needed and oversees the management of the school’s assets including real estate and endowment.
Manages financial affairs of the school in support of the Head of School and within the parameters established by the Board of Trustees. Includes supervision of business office personnel, accounting and banking, preparation and oversight of annual operating and capital budgets, preparation and oversight of annual audit, preparation and oversight of long-term financial plan, maintenance of financial records and systems, reporting and benchmarking, management of risk and management of school’s financial assets.
Manages school’s tuition assistance program as a strategic enrollment tool requiring close collaboration with Board of Trustees and admissions department.
Manages administration of personnel policies and practices including supervision of Human Resource staff, all aspects of payroll and benefits, preparation for annual audit and maintenance of personnel records.
Manages and enhances school’s assets including financial investments and endowments, facilities and grounds, administrative and educational technology and equipment.
Manages non-academic operations including supervision of associated staff. Includes maintenance and use of facilities and grounds, implementation of auxiliary services (including food services, transportation, safety and security, facilities rentals), purchasing of supplies and equipment, vendor relationships, management of all capital assets including technology and internal systems necessary for the functioning of the school.
Manages school’s risk by ensuring appropriate policies, practices and protection of its human, financial and capital resources.
Serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees by supporting and partnering with Finance Committee, Investment Committee, Audit Committee and Tuition Assistance Committee. Participates in Board of Trustees meetings and works with Board to establish and manage strategic priorities including those to ensure the long-term strength and sustainability of the school’s program and value of its assets.
Serves as a member and thought leader within the school’s administration, supporting the Head of School and building positive working relationships with financial institutions and independent auditors as well as school constituents including faculty and staff, families, Board members, community partners and funders. Works with colleagues to identify areas in which greater coordination or collaboration can improve the quality or cost-effectiveness of operations and services.
Evaluates and improves financial systems, operations and controls by championing continuous improvement, adopting best practices and effectively utilizing technology. Maintains current working knowledge of all aspects of accounting and financial management and ensures school’s compliance with various legal and government regulations as relates to the school’s finances and operations. Represents the school in independent school networks and associations to ensure relationships with and knowledge of the industry and trends.
Education: CPA and/or MBA
Experience: 10+ years of relevant financial and administrative experience
Experience with operations desired; Familiarity with school operations a plus
Management experience required
