The CFO/Treasurer will have responsibility for the fiscal operations of the College Heights Foundation, WKU Foundation, and WKU Real Estate Corporation as well as various components of the financial operations of other institutionally related entities at Western Kentucky University. The CFO will play a critical role in developing and implementing fiscal management and reporting strategies across the organization. The CFO will have oversight of all the fiscal and fiduciary duties of the organization which will include budgeting, financial monitoring, forecasting, planning, and analysis. Within a financially complex organizational structure, the CFO will provide a breadth of expertise, supervision, and guidance in the areas of fund accounting, financial reporting and analysis, audit oversight and management, policy development, internal control, general accounting, budgeting and forecasting, and financial investments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Assesses organizational performance against the annual budget and the organization's long-term strategies
Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information
Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP, IRS, and other regulatory requirements
Maintains internal safeguards and coordination of the various checks and balances within the organization
Serves as the in-house compliance expert, analyzes and interprets FASB and other regulatory directives, and proposes changes to improve or enhance current accounting practices
Coordinates with independent audit and tax team to ensure audits run smoothly, are completed in a timely manner, and any issues are resolved appropriately
Manages the accounting software system and coordinates upgrades and changes as necessary
Oversees budgeting and their implementation to monitor progress and present financial metrics
Develops financial business plans and forecasts in alignment with organizational strategy
Ensures the preparation and filing of tax returns, paperwork, and other reports required by regulatory agencies
Communicates with investment consultants and contracted asset managers and provides oversight of the investment portfolio
Prepares financial statements and other reports as needed for the President and Board of Directors
Provides leadership, supervision, and development of staff, fostering a shared vision and demonstrating the values of the organization
Maintains effective relationships with key campus units
Performs other duties as may be required
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Minimum of five years of professional financial or accounting experience.
Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills as well as exceptional organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to develop valuable partnerships both on campus and external to the University.
