The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic and operational leader providing financial counsel to the Head of School and Board of Trustees. The CFO ensures efficient and effective stewardship of the School’s physical and financial resources, human resources, operations, risk management, and project management for campus master planning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Participate in the development of school fiscal strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the head of school and treasurer.
Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the school's strategic goals and mission and maintain accurate account records related to the school’s budget.
Oversee school business office functions including: front desk, registrar, tuition billing and collection, accounts payable/receivable, contracting, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and year-end audit.
Administer human resources functions including payroll, health benefits, retirement, compliance, employee relations, and other employee matters.
Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
Provide financial reports to school leadership and the Finance Committee and the Board.
Under the guidance of the Treasurer, plan and provide materials for all Finance Committee meetings
Under the guidance of the Facilities Committee Chair and in consultation with the Manager of Facilities, plan and provide materials for the Board Facilities Committee.
Attend all Executive Committee meetings and Board meetings and retreat.
Collaborate with and assist the head of school and the board of trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities.
Supervise the school nursing staff and assist in ensuring that the school’s policies in this area are consistent with State Department of Health standards for schools.
Manage IT department; staffing, classroom technology, help desk, and network infrastructure.
Oversee risk management functions including emergency response, compliance, risk exposure areas, and insurance coverage.
Serve as the liaison between school and outside counsel for legal matters.
Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational environment.
Supervise the Facilities Manager to ensure effective maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Provide oversight of vendors including the operation of the dining program.
Manage, mentor, and supervise all direct reports, providing constructive and timely feedback. Model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students in the conduct of the school’s business.
Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in professional development opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in local, regional, and national professional organizations to include ADVIS, NBOA and PAISBOA.
A bachelor’s degree, accounting or finance preferred
