Our client is one of Rhode Island’s premier construction companies. Due to their continued growth they have asked us to assist them with a search for their next Chief Financial Officer.
Reporting to the Owners/Partner, the Chief Financial Officer will work with a strong Executive team that consists of two Owners and a Chief Strategy Officer.
The Chief Financial Officer will have a strong background in finance, specifically in the real estate, construction, engineering, or architectural industries. The CFO will have extensive experience in project financing, strategic analysis, and financial analysis.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the top Accounting, Finance and Administrative professional for our organization, reporting directly to the Owner group. The position requires a strong focus on the continued creation and maintenance of scalable systems, processes, and controls for this growing design build general contractor and construction management company.
There will also be a focus on strategic financial planning, both short term and long-term. The CFO is expected to have operational excellence with regards to financial reporting, strategic planning and communication skills and follow through. A critical part of the CFO role is having Financial Planning Analysis (FPA) experience, competence in organizational management and to consult with the Owner group on the strategic vision of growth. This is a hands-on role that will manage, lead and train a small staff. The CFO is a member of our Executive Leadership team. The CFO’s direct report is the Controller.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Embody and carry out the Company's core values
Partner with Chief of Strategy and Operations and Ownership to manage the financial risks of the company, including oversight of accounting practices, including the accounting department, financial reports, tax and audit functions.
Work with executive leadership to ensure operational success through cost analysis support and compliance with all contractual requirements.
Drive and manage the month, quarter and year-end close process
Manage and review all transactional accounting areas: AR, AP, Payroll, Billing
Create, maintain, and evolve financial policies, controls and processes that will position for efficient and effective scaling
Prepare regular and ad-hoc cash flow reporting, forecasting and analysis
Produce, maintain and present all required financial statements and reports
Create and maintain dashboard reporting that summarize and interpret current and projected financial position
Provide standard and ad-hoc financial analysis that may be required by Ownership
Represent the Company to the financial community and manage relationships with our outside accounting firm, bank, insurance brokers and law firms
Project set up, tracking and analysis on an ongoing basis
Complete the timely preparation of all tax related issues and filings
Develop a high-performing, best practice driven organization over time through mentorship, coaching and leadership; hire, train, manage and review work of a small staff
Manage the annual budget process
MBA Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
10+ years related industry and relevant CFO experience
Significant construction industry leadership experience required
Experience with Timberline/Sage strongly preferred
Proven experience building systems, processes and controls
Experience in hiring, training and developing staff
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Additional Salary Information: Discretionary bonus based on personal and company performance
