This is a small office and the Director of Finance and Operations is a hands-on, roll up your sleeves job. There is a great Controller, but the school needs to know that all responsibilities have "back-up."
Accounting: To supervise the work of the school’s accounting personnel to ensure that the financial records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
Reporting: Develop and provide monthly reports for the Head of School and Board members
Financial Planning Process: To develop and maintain the annual budget as well as review and update a long-range financial plan to ensure the successful financial operation of the school.
Audit: Coordinate with Finance Committee and outside audit firm to ensure a smooth annual audit process
Banking: Maintain Investment and banking relationships
Board: Act as staff support to Board committees – Finance and Executive
Risk Management: Ensure that the school has sufficient levels of insurance and is in compliance with all H/R regulations
Salary and Benefits: Work with the Head of School on developing and implementing salary structures and benefits programs
Represent the school at local, state, and national levels
Financing: Develop and maintain financing options for construction projects as well as management of current bond
Construction Project Management: Coordinate with the facility manager any capital projects
Offer fundraising support to the Director of Development when asked.
Financial Aid: Coordinates the financial data from TADS and serves on the Financial Aid Committee
Supervise and evaluate support personnel: receptionist (and her role in accounts receivable); the facility maintenance personnel; Controller; IT, and chef
Auxilary Programs: Ensure effective operation of food service and any other auxiliary enterprises of the school
Oversight of security planning and emergency procedures
A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or a related field is required. An MBA is preferred. At least 6-10 years of experience in finance or accounting in a non-profit organization, preferably in a school. Experience using accounting software programs and databases. The school currently uses Veracross accounting system.

Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making. Experience in final responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination in your organization. Experience and management of human resources functions.
