Departmental Overview The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief Financial Officer.
Responsibilities OVERVIEW: Athletics is one of the most visible units on campus and many of the university's stakeholders (internal and external) are particularly interested in Athletics' financial condition and how its financial performance impacts the university. This position involves developing, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial planning, resource planning (dollars), and control of organizational budget. Analyzes and prepares recommendations for financial plans, including annual resource allocations, future requirements, and operating forecasts.
Responsible for maintaining integrity of campus budget systems through supervision and oversight of budget staff; functions as chief budget liaison for budget allocations, oversees analysis and policy development for campus-wide funding issues and budget processes, resource allocations and funding models.
Responsible for the creation, maintenance and reporting of operational and capital budgets and budget processes, staff budgeted FTE, performance of financial planning.
Responsible for maintaining a strong internal control environment. Works to ensure policies are followed.
Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, unit and/or customers.
In addition, serve with campus Chief Administrative Officers on campus projects/committees that impact campus-wide decisions.
Manages financial activities of department through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods, and employees.
5+ years of experience in high-level financial and strategic decision-making
Must have advanced knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, in group and individual settings. Demonstrated ability to communicate diplomatically with employees at all levels and maintain confidentiality.
Expert knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems, budgeting and reporting techniques; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping.
Client services oriented, has good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills.
Position requires exceptional political sensitivity and interpersonal skills and ability to enable the incumbent to work effectively across and outside the organization at all levels in a collaborative manner.
Strong leadership skills, and ability to develop consensus in sensitive and confidential situations.
Ability to inspire, organize and direct the activities of subordinate managers, professionals and peers within the organization.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
Interest in and passion for students and intercollegiate athletics.
Knowledge of NCAA rules.
Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. MBA desirable.
Previous experience at a Division 1 Power 5 Conference institution
