Our client, a growing, profitable family owned manufacturing company of consumer goods located in Skokie, has a newly created opportunity for a Controller who has potential to grow with the organization.
This "hands on" controller role will lead the company’s Accounting and Finance functions ensuring that proper controls exist throughout the organization. The Controller manages monthly financial close activities, financial reporting, inventory and non-inventory accounts payable, payroll, contract review, annual audits and footnote disclosures. This role also participates in cross functional projects/committees, research/establishment of account flow and reporting requirements for new business endeavors to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidelines, annual budget participation and other ad hoc management support.
Manages monthly financial close activities, financial reporting, inventory and non-inventory accounts payable, payroll, contract review, annual audits and footnote disclosures.
Manages and provides leadership and developmental opportunities for direct reports including mentoring, training, work assignments, and timely performance evaluations.
Works closely with the CFO/COO to ensure consistency of processes throughout the Finance department.
Leads the Company’s Accounting and Finance functions ensuring that proper controls exist throughout the organization.
Design and manage economic strategy and forecasting (e.g., financial, sales)
Leverage performance insights to drive business decisions
Participate in the development of and support the company's strategic plans
Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
CPA and public accounting experience preferred.
10+ year’s progressive experience in a manufacturing/corporate accounting environment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to be pragmatic and assertive; leads by example; assumes responsibility for own actions and holds direct reports accountable.
Technical and practical applications experience in audit procedures and audit controls preferred.
Results oriented with strong planning, prioritization, problem solving and decision-making, organizational and time-management skills. Works well under pressure and delivers on commitments.
Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database programs, and report writing.
Proficiency in Excel, Syspro or similar general ledger/reporting systems.
