Habitat Wake, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, serves its home County, Wake, and bordering County, Johnston. Habitat partners with local corporations, individuals, congregations, and community groups to build safe, affordable homes with hardworking families. Since 1985, Habitat Wake has partnered with nearly 1,000 families in Wake County. Next fiscal year Habitat Wake plans to build approximately 75 new homes and complete 50 home repairs locally and provide funds for the construction of 125 homes globally. It operates with a total budget of approximately $16.2 million.
Habitat Wake’s success is built on strong, diverse partnerships. Last year alone, more than 18,500 individuals volunteered their time to help build safe, affordable homes. Each year, more than 2,700 corporations, congregations, individuals, and local organizations provide financial and volunteer support. In addition, Habitat Wake ReStores provide a sustainable revenue stream in support of the mission.

The Leadership Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Senior Vice President, Finance/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a vital part of the leadership team, responsible for the overall financial management of the organization. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for financial strategy, planning, and analysis; budgeting and forecasting; accounting; general ledger; treasury management; financial relations and policy development. The CFO also oversees the IT function that supports Habitat Wake. The CFO will work in close partnership with the CEO and the Board of Directors.
The Senior Vice President, Finance/Chief Financial Officer will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities:
Leadership - Acting as the chief financial spokesperson for the organization, work with the CEO, Board, and staff to set strategic goals and priorities. Ensure strong inter-departmental relations and foster positive relationships amongst staff.
Financial Management – Oversee and coordinate all facets of fiscal management – including financial reporting, audits, tax preparation, cash flow management, forecasting and analysis, general accounting activities, treasury management, banking, and account reconciliations – interfacing with auditors, government agencies, homeowners, attorneys, vendors, and Habitat Wake staff and Board as necessary. Lead the annual budget process and work with budget owners to control costs and manage variances. Coordinate with the Board Treasurer and report financial activities and needs to the Finance Committee and CEO.
Resource Development – Solicit mortgage finance opportunities and work with brokers to culminate and implement deals. Serve as the primary staff interface with financial institutions. Provide financial information and support, as needed, for fundraising efforts.
Operations Management – Implement industry best practices, business policies, and internal controls to safeguard corporate assets and data and ensure excellence in all facets of financial operations. Manage outsourced information technology function. Provide financial support for ReStore operations. Drive finance-related projects to improve operational efficiencies.
Staff Development - Lead a team of finance and data professionals, maintaining a culture of teamwork, accountability, and quality throughout the department. Conduct annual performance reviews and coach team members throughout the year, providing professional development as appropriate.

Attributes of the New Leader
The Senior Vice President, Finance/Chief Financial Officer must be committed to the mission, Christian heritage and values of Habitat Wake, and dedicated to ensuring the financial well-being of the organization. In addition, he or she should possess key attributes, including:
At least 7 years of proven leadership in a financial role, with a minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience in a management position
Experience managing complex financials, with a solid background in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in a corporate or not-for-profit setting
Strong track record of building positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to develop and successfully implement financial strategies, processes, policies, and controls within a multi-faceted organization
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, and plan multiple projects and schedules to meet deadlines and achieve desired outcomes
Collaborative and creative problem-solving nature, with a focus on providing excellent customer service
Strong communications (writing, interpersonal, public speaking) and listening skills
Analytical/qualitative and detailed orientation that places emphasis on accuracy
Technology-savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Financial Edge or comparable accounting software
Commitment to ongoing professional development for self and staff
Experience working with a non-profit board of directors and volunteers preferred
Experience with real estate transactions, mortgage lending, tax credits, and/or retail preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with Accounting Concentration from an accredited institution; CPA or other relevant certification preferred
