San Diego Christian College (SDC), as an academic and learning community, aims to prepare academically equipped, culturally and globally involved graduates with a biblical worldview and godly character to serve God. The Finance Department at SDC provides leadership in all financial matters, provides outstanding customer service to internal (students, staff, faculty), executes critical financial processing and transactional deliverables and furthers the mission, vision and values of the organization.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) furthers the growth of SDC in all financial matters, manages the responsibility of all financial reporting, budgets and forecasting, leads the Finance department and oversees the department of Human Resources to drive key business results and exhibits SDC’s core values of identity in Christ, service and excellence.
Organizational Financial Leadership (40%)
Generate and collaborate regarding strategies across a broad spectrum of college-wide issues.
Oversee and manage all financial matters at SDC as well as all internal control systems.
Assist and advise in long-term strategic financial plan.
Oversee SDC’s endowment and investments in coordination with the Investment Committee.
Collaborate across departments to address revenue development needs.
Take primary responsibility for development of SDC’s annual and multi-year budget, collaborating with stakeholders including faculty and staff.
Oversee all college insurance, risk management operations and purchasing.
Prepare and analyze financial statements.
Manage and process real estate transaction financing.
Provide a strong customer service approach within the entire financial/administrative organization, clearly demonstrating that finance is a support operation intended to help the academic enterprise succeed
Represent SDC at public functions and special events as appropriate.
Assist the Audit Committee (AC) in the engagement of an independent auditor. Oversee and work with auditor to complete annual financial statements.
Lead Board Finance Committee (FC). Attend and support Board Meetings.
Financial Reporting (20%)
Provide weekly dashboard and meet with President on current financial position.
Provide and review monthly financial statements with President regularly.
Prepare reports (standard and ad hoc), documents and presentations for FC, AC and Board of Trustees (BOT).
Meet with President regularly to discuss reports and presentation to FC and BOT.
Provide weekly reports and lead meetings regarding strategy and impact based on data-driven insights.
Provide weekly departmental reports to VPs.
Review financials with each Vice President (VP) regularly.
Plan, lead and execute regulatory meetings and reports
Prepare all documents for WASC accreditation related to finances.
Attend all meetings required by WASC related to finances.
Assist with the preparation of the IPeds, EZ Audit and other related documents.
Process the following informational returns associated with the organization.Federal Form 990 and 990T and California Form 109 and 199
Budget Management (10%)
Lead the process of budget development and review.
Collaborate with President and VPs to develop and implement fiscal year and five-year budget.
Monthly review of active budget with President and VPs.
Weekly operational work-flow and cash-flow management.
Attend weekly cabinet meetings as needed.
Leadership of the following functional areas (20%)
Accounts Payables to include: bill processing, credit card reconciliations, advance reconciliations, 1099 Processing
Payroll to include: accurate employee payroll records, benefit reconciliations, work study Reconciliation (college and federal), retirement contributions and deductions processing, payroll accruals, special payrolls, manual payroll checks, work study tracking, payroll and employment verification, annual worker's compensation audit
Reconciliations to include: reconciliation of bank activity deposits/transfers, PayPal, Populi Perkins Loans Endowment Funds, Payroll, Pledge Processing, Student Accounts to IXero.
Maintenance of a fixed asset inventory with depreciation schedules, maintenance of Bookstore Inventory with Bookstore Allocation and Quarterly Board of Equalization filings. Assist in the training of staff with budget responsibilities. Provide observations on internal control matters and make comments and recommendations as appropriate.
Human Resources to include: employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, training and development, disciplinary actions, same-day terminations for cause, layoffs, new hire orientations, organizational and federal reporting.
Supervisory Responsibilities (10%):
This position directly supervises senior leadership in Finance as well as Human Resources.
Delegates tasks and provides effective direction to team members to produce substantial business results.
Screens applications, interviews candidates and recommends individuals for hiring.
Trains and assigns work to new and continuing employees
Independently conducts frequent performance feedback at least quarterly throughout the year, as well as the 90-day and annual performance evaluations.
Trains, coaches and supports professional development of all direct reports.
Makes recommendations for employee incentive awards and salary increases including merits and reclassifications.
In conjunction with HR, determines discipline for direct reports.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. CPA preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior leadership in the area of finance.
Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other accounting software, preferably Xero.
Highly effective interpersonal skills; skilled in tactful diplomacy and conflict resolution.
Outstanding organizational skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated skills and techniques to recognize problems and find solutions that uphold SDC’s core values.

Must be available to work overtime (nights and weekends) as needed
