Description Dynamic Public Interest law firm seeking a progressive Chief Operating Officer to join our Executive Leadership Team to help lead the organization through a time of great change and challenges. This is a true shirtsleeves role for a strong manager with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment The CFO must have the ability to perform, direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance, Accounting and Billing functions of the organization, and lead the full cycle of our Development/Fundraising program as an effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong verbal and written skills and a willingness to share information. Strong analytical problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the executives of a multi-divisional organization, the CFO serves as a member of the senior management team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CFO is responsible for oversight and coordination of all financial accounting systems, assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the organization and creates a culture of stability and growth. The CFO will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 12+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles with knowledge of not-for-profit services in a Grant funded/Federally regulated setting. The ideal candidate will have proven experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. S/he will have experience managing the finance function within a diverse and distributed entity. Knowledge of non-profit accounting in accordance with GAAP and OMB Circular A-133: if coming from the for-profit sector, non-profit Board experience is a plus. Experience working with or managing technology programs with demonstrated experience in systems development and implementation favored.
Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives. Develop financial business plans and forecasts. Ensure credibility of the Finance department by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts. Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities, new programs, and services, plus risk assessment concerning changes in the business model. Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance. Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and other regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Mentor and develop the Finance and Billing team, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic. Provide advice and/or decisions on technology investments, including business intelligence and business applications across the organization. In concert with the CEO and leadership team, support the Finance Committee and the organization’s Treasurer. Participate in the development of an annual budget in collaboration with the CEO and senior management team. Manage operational control framework and appropriate policies for the annual operating budget and annual capital budget. Provide the Finance Committee and Board with timely, realistic and understandable assessments of organization’s financial condition. Monitor the financial performance of the organization as a whole against approved budgets, long-term trends, and non-profit sector benchmarks Assure the organization is operating at the highest level of financial responsibility commensurate with the nature of their mission. Manage key operating benchmarks including program results, grant revenue, sponsorships and billable services income.
Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA, MBA or MS in Finance is desired. Nonprofit experience is highly preferred. Must be a “shirtsleeves” leader that demonstrates the ability to support and advance the entire organization. Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely data. The candidate of choice will possess a high level of integrity and dependability with exceptional written, oral interpersonal and presentation skills with the stature and ability to effectively interface with senior management, Board of Directors and staff, capable of performing all functions within the department and a strong commitment to developing and effectively coaching all department staff.Valid Florida automobile license, use of own auto, and proof of insurance necessary.
