The CFO is responsible for directing and overseeing all fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by regulatory, professional and standard setting bodies and organizations in accordance with financial management techniques and practices within the industry.
Primary duties include all financial reporting functions of the organization, including preparation of financial statements and budgets, reporting to the President and CEO of USA Gymnastics (“USAG”), the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance, Compensation and Audit Committee of the Board, and the Board of Directors (“Board”). The CFO must work with the external auditors for the timely preparation of audited financial statements and tax returns. This position will lead USA Gymnastics efforts in the promotion of a safe, healthy training environment for all participants, and will promote compliance with and enforcement of applicable USAG rules, policies, and safe sport provisions in the gymnastics community.
Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
Innovate the finance and related functions of USAG including systems, processes, controls and reporting functions.
Participate in the development of the USAG’s plan and programs as a strategic partner.
Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, financial statements and financial trends in order to assist the President and CEO, the Treasurer, the Board and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
Develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
Promote continual improvement of the financial and budgeting processes through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
Optimize the handling of banking and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes operating needs.
Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
Evaluate the finance department structure and team for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with opportunities for professional and personal growth.
Prepare financial schedules and information for external auditors to assist in preparation of annual audit.
Prepare annual financial statements for the external auditor to complete the audit process on a timely basis
Prepare tax returns annually for review by tax preparers.
Work with department heads and President to prepare annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
Monitor variances with accounting staff, department heads and President, and prepare quarterly reports for the Board.
Provide trusted advice to the President and CEO, the Board, and all USAG department heads on matters related to financial affairs of the corporation.
Review all accounts payable activity, including review of vouchers and check signature.
Review and prepare for posting airline and employee corporate card activity. Send check files to bank for ‘positive pay’ processing.
Review monthly GL postings and bank reconciliations.
Work with United State Olympic Committee (“USOC”) on quarterly and annual grant reporting and biweekly athlete support processing.
Prepare all financial reports and financial statements for National Gymnastics Foundation for presentation to Board and for review by external auditors.
Review National Gymnastics Foundation investment activity as reconciled by staff.
Review state and regional activity as supervised by staff, and sign all checks related to state and regional activity.
Oversee maintenance and reporting requirements associated with employee benefit programs, and review programs with external providers.
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of all employees in the accounting department.
Bachelor’s degree required – in accounting or finance
5-10 years of experience in not-for-profit or related field
MBA with emphasis in accounting or finance
